Cover Design

People ask me all the time if the boy on the cover of Nothing You Can't Do is Chet, and the answer is probably pretty obvious – yes it is!

BUT he wasn't supposed to be on the cover.

The truth is – I originally had two other characters (a boy and a girl) from the book on the cover. I really wanted the cover to show the book's themes of empowerment and inclusion. But for whatever reason, the artwork just wasn't working.

As soon as I put Chet's picture on the cover, it totally popped – and made sense. Even though the book was written for children everywhere, it was inspired by Chet (click on the link in my bio to read the backstory).

So I the end, I picked the visual that popped over the original one – and haven't looked back. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow and let things unfold on their own.

What do you think makes a great cover?

I'd love to know!
